SEO / SMO Services

Search engine optimisation and social media optimisation for business websites — technical and on-page work, consistent business profiles, honest monthly reporting, and no guaranteed-ranking nonsense.

Having a good website is not enough if potential clients cannot find it. Search engine optimisation (SEO) and social media optimisation (SMO) are the two disciplines that make a business findable and recognisable online. My Geeks LLC provides both as a single service for business websites, delivered as a monthly engagement with honest, plain-English reporting. This page explains what the service includes, how it is carried out, what it does not include, and how it is priced.

First, a clear definition. SEO is the work of making a website easy for search engines to read, understand and trust, and of making its pages genuinely useful for the questions people type into a search box. It is not a shortcut, a switch or a guarantee. Nobody outside the search engines knows precisely how results are ordered, and any provider who promises a specific ranking position is either guessing or misleading you. What a responsible practitioner can do is remove technical obstacles, complete the groundwork properly, improve the content steadily, and measure what changes. That is the service we provide.

Every SEO engagement begins with a technical and on-page review of your website. We examine how the site is built: whether pages load quickly, whether they work on mobile devices, whether search engines can crawl and index them, whether there are broken links, duplicate pages or missing titles and descriptions, and whether the site is served securely. We review the structure — how pages link to one another, whether headings describe the content, and whether web addresses are readable. We document the findings in order of importance with a recommendation against each. Many of these items are addressed in the first weeks of an engagement, and if we built your website the groundwork is already in place.

Keyword research follows. We identify the plain phrases, local variations and questions your potential clients actually type when looking for what you offer. We check which of those your site already addresses and which it does not. We then recommend, page by page, what each page should focus on and how its title, description, headings and body text should reflect that focus. Where a page is missing, we say so. Where two pages compete with each other for the same topic, we recommend combining them. The aim is a website where every page has a clear purpose that matches a real question.

On-page improvements are where the recommendations become changes. We rewrite titles and meta descriptions so they are accurate and inviting. We adjust headings so they describe the content. We improve internal links so visitors and search engines can move easily between related pages. We add descriptive text to images. We set up or correct the XML sitemap and the robots file, and we register the site with the search engines' own webmaster tools so that indexing problems are reported to us rather than discovered by accident. If your site is one we maintain, we make the changes directly; if not, we provide them in a form your developer can apply.

Social media optimisation is the second half of the service, and it addresses consistency. A business is often represented online by several profiles — a search engine business listing, a Facebook page, an Instagram account, a LinkedIn company page and perhaps others — created at different times by different people, with different names, addresses, opening hours and logos. Clients notice the inconsistency even when they cannot name it, and search engines treat conflicting information as a reason for doubt. We set up the profiles that are missing, claim the ones that are unclaimed, and bring all of them into line: the same name, the same contact details, the same description of what you do, the same imagery, and links back to the website.

It is important to be clear about where SMO ends and marketing begins. Optimising your profiles makes them accurate, complete and consistent, and links your social presence to your website. It does not include producing a regular stream of posts, running advertising or managing an online community. Those activities belong to our Digital Marketing service, and we will tell you plainly if that is what your business actually needs. Many businesses simply need their existing presence tidied and connected, and that is a worthwhile job in its own right.

Measurement is where we work hardest to be straightforward. Each month you receive a short report in plain English. It states what work was done, what we observed in the site's search visibility and traffic using the search engines' own tools and the site's analytics, which pages gained or lost ground, and what we propose to do next. Where numbers move, we tell you. Where they do not, we tell you that too, along with our best understanding of why. We do not dress the figures up, and we do not hide them in a dashboard that needs a translator. You should be able to read the report in five minutes and understand it.

There are practices we refuse to use. We do not buy links, participate in link schemes, generate pages purely for search engines, hide text, or do anything else that breaches the published guidelines of the search engines. These tactics sometimes produce a short-lived improvement and routinely produce a lasting penalty, and we will not expose your business to that risk. If you have been offered such services elsewhere, we are happy to explain why we decline them. Our method is slower and steadier: strengthen the foundations, improve the content, keep the presence consistent, and let the results build over time.

The exclusions are listed in every quotation. Advertising spend is separate and belongs to our Digital Marketing service. Substantial new content — long articles, case studies, video — is quoted separately if you want us to produce it, although we will always tell you what the site would benefit from. Changes to the design or structure of the website that go beyond on-page adjustments are quoted as website development work. And, because it bears repeating, we do not include guaranteed rankings or traffic figures.

Pricing is by written quotation. The effort involved depends on the size of the website, its current condition, the competitiveness of your market and the number of social profiles to be managed. After a short discovery call and a review of your site, we send a written proposal setting out the scope, the monthly fee, the reporting arrangement and how the service can be ended. SEO is a sustained effort rather than a one-off task, so the service is billed as a monthly retainer, invoiced in advance, which can be ended by written notice at the close of the current billing month.

If your business has a website that deserves to be found, or a set of social profiles that should agree with one another, we would be glad to review it. Request a quote through our Contact page, send us an email, or telephone during business hours. We will review your site, tell you honestly what we see, and set out in writing what we propose to do about it.
